An example of this genre is the series “Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple”. Published in 2002, this story focuses on the 16 year-old high school student, Kenichi Shirahama who is a long-term victim of bullying. That is until he meets and becomes friends with new transfer student Miu Fūrinji, whose grandfather Hayato Fūrinji, owns and leads the Ryōzanpaku, a dojo that houses serveral masters of diverse martial arts.
With the drive to become stronger, he learns the basics from Miu at Ryōzanpaku which he uses to defend himself from a high-ranking member of the schools karate club, this results in him becoming a target for all the delinquents in the school. He starts off by routinely goes for daily training but he eventually becomes a full disciple that sees him in training under the six different masters in Ryōzanpaku, learning different fighting styles.
In this series, we get to see the types of trouble that Kenichi gets dragged into, like fighting against a group called ‘Ragnarok’ who is a gang that are either constantly trying to recruit or vanquish him. We also get to see a bit of romance as Kenichi falls in love and tries to woo Miu.
