This genre is an interesting one, with stories that keep the audience second guessing themselves. Usually paired with Mystery, these series will always have twists and turns with characters predicting what the other will do in the future. For example, in a game of chess, one would want to try and think steps ahead in hopes to outsmart their opponent. With good storylines and great strategies used, this makes psychological genres one to watch.
An example of this genre is the series “Death Note”. Published in 2003, this story follows the young genius Light Yagami , who resents everything evil. His life is changed when he picks up the “Death Note” that houses a shinigami named Ryuk who was the previous owner; this notebook has the power to kill anyone whose name is written in it. After confirming the notebooks authenticity, Light decides to take justice into his own hands by exterminating all the criminals of the world until the world only has the people whom he judged to be kind and honest. Once he achieves this ideal utopia, he planes to rule over it as what he called the “the god of the new world”.
After many unexplainable deaths of criminals caused by Kira (derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the word “killer”), Light’s alias, this draws the attention of the world-famous detective, L who quickly deduces that Kira is located in Japan, where Light is.
Now we witness the cat-and-mouse chase with clever strategies that both parties make in order to try and read each other’s moves.[LINK] For a wide range of goods straight from Japan including Anime, Manga and Figures, please follow the link below: [LINK]
